Over the years many people have had their presumptions and doubts about Dominik Santiago, but as he sits a top GHW's throne, he can boldly say that he's surpassed all of those expectations and quieted all of his skeptics. One of his loudest critics, Wolverina, was the most recent to be silenced by the Assassin, falling beneath his proverbial sword at NeXus. And now that he's retained his prestigious GHW Championship, Dominik must turn his attention to the impending challenges that await. With Red, White and Bruised just around the corner, Santiago is mentally and physically preparing himself for the grueling stretch run. We find him in the local gym, lifting 60 pound dumbbells in his hands as he stares in front of a massive mirror. After a quick set he releases the weights, dropping them to the floor with a massive thud as the burn is felt in his bulging biceps. He backhands a wad of sweat from his forehead, an expression of satisfaction, and gratification lies on his face as the perspiration cascades down his mug. As he takes a reprieve, a figure approaches him, revealing itself to be Charlie Coors.
Coors: "Hey Dom, I got your request for an exclusive interview. I heard I could find you in here. Should I wait for you to get cleaned up or?"
Dom: "No this is fine, let me just catch my breath."
The GHW Champion extends his hand toward a group of benches, offering the longtime interviewer to take a seat. Feeling obliged, Coors does just that, before he is joined by the Assassin. Santiago seethes more air into his lungs, and wipes his face with a nearby towel as Charlie carries on.
"Looks like you're working out pretty hard. Why such a rigorous training?"
"I'm preparing for the immediate future, a plethora of challenges, and an ever increasing number of men and women looking to eliminate me and take their place upon the throne, overseeing this company. Charlie, I'm training hard, because my competition is coming hard. I have to be at the top of my game to ensure that I keep my place at the top of the foodchain. I'm training hard, because the hunters are bearing down, and they're coming fast."
"And some of those hunters?"
"I don't have to look any father than Desperado. He finally won NeXus. He finally lived his dream, a dream he watched his closest friends accomplish. I'm sure it was eating away at him that Matthew Oliveira and Metal Dragon both won one deathmatch, and right before his eyes too. And now that he's finally done the impossible, I'm sure he feels like a weight has been lifted from his shoulders. He feels invincible. It's a scary feeling, I can attest to that. You feel like nothing can stand in your way, and that you are your only obstacle in accomplishing anything you set out to do. Desperado is at his physical and metal prime right now. He's never been better in the ring. He's making his charge to the top right now, and it will end with me."
Dominik grabs a nearby water bottle and takes a sip as his words stew in Coors' head.
"And you're not the only one on his list. He's going after both you and Dustin Delta. Desperado has joined the H-Games this year and plans to win the tournament and defeat Delta for the King of the Deathmatch Championship. It's clear he wants to go out a double champion. And it's interesting to add, or maybe even ironic, the last man to win the H-Games, went on to win the GHW Championship. I'm sitting in front of him right now actually..."
"I'm aware of that, and more power to him. I just hope he has enough left in the tank come Full Circle, or whenever he decides to challenge me for the right to call himself "the best." When that time comes Coors, I'll be ready for Desperado. And that doesn't mean I'm overlooking anybody else, or looking past anybody, I'm just so incredibly focused right now. And it's justifiable. Desperado is a marquee superstar, and considered a legend in this business. We've never been pitted against one another to my knowledge, and if we have, it definitely didn't have this type of feel. And we definitely weren't at the levels we are today. I recognize him for his talents, and respect him for his competitiveness. They don't call him "Deadly and Dangerous" for nothing."
"They certainly don't. But just to touch on something you mentioned, who would be these challengers that may pose a threat, other than Desperado of course?"
Dom takes another sip from the bottle.
"To be honest, it feels like the whole rosters gunning for me. You've got Millson, and we've had a series of great matches in the past. You've gotta keep a guy like him in the rearview mirror, because you never know when they'll sneak up on you and hit you from behind. Then there's Wolverina. No matter how much you punish her and put her down, she always comes back for more. Don't know if its stupidity, but that's who she is. And I'm not buying her insanity front for a second. She's a cold and calculating harlot. I've got my eyes open for anything. Jack Tracks, Vex, two young stars that are always looking to make a name for themselves. I'm ready for them too just in case they're looking to reach superstardom at my expense. An obvious name would be Hayden Hardkore. If that chapter in my career opens back up, I'll be there with the ink to write another page...."
"And then there's Kahlan."
Another sip...
"Ah yes, Kahlan Clarkson, the wildcard, my former ally. I don't really keep up with her anymore. I guess she's supposed to have first crack at me or something but I digress. If she's looking for a fight, I'll bring it to her as well. Since she specializes in climbing long, pointy objects, we can even make it a ladder match, I don't really care. I'm feeling great, and more confident than I've even felt Charlie. I'm taking on all comers. I'm not like one of those champions that hides and ducks, doing anything he can to weasel out of trouble and hold on to the rope as long as he can. I'm welcoming these opponents. I've earned my stake at the top, and I'm willing, and eager to defend it against the waves of locust that want to swarm me. I'm the GHW Champion, there's a target on my chest. Everyone on the roster is gunning for me. They're pointing their guns, their firearms, and are aiming them right at my head. I'm just staring down the barrel Charlie, and I'm begging them to fire. And they better make good on the first shot, because if I'm still standing, I'll be firing back with everything I've got."
"Well the world will be watching closely to see who's standing when the dust settles. I have no doubt in my mind you'll be ready for these challengers. Good luck to you then."
As Charlie rises from the bench and turns to leave, Santiago stands himself, grabbing him along the shoulder to get his attention.
It's not a matter of luck Charles, it's a matter of will.
Coors nods, before exiting from camera view, leaving Santiago to return to his workout. Dominik is confident, as usual, but maybe even more then he's ever been in himself. A multitude of challengers awaits him on the road to Full Circle. The GHW Champion is preparing to face all of them, and do whatever it takes to overcome them.
