Charlie Coors stands backstage, in front of a GHW banner. The staging is simple - a pair of chairs sit underneath the banner for no apparent reason. There is no table to sit at, nor is there anything to really sit and look at. Coors smiles his goofy smile and stares down the lens of the camera.
"Ahem... My guest at this time, none other than the legendary Jackass, Hayden HardKore.
Hayden, thanks for agreeing to answer a few questions tonight."[/i]
The camera zooms out, revealing Hayden himself standing next to Coors, dressed ready to fight in his ring gear. He shakes hands with Coors, his trademark 'nice-guy' smile plastered on his face.
"Not a problem Charlie. Four hour GHW tonight, you guys have got to fill in the blanks with something right?
What do you want to know?"[/i]
Charlie thinks for a second or two, remembering the list of questions that he had prepared for the interview. As if retrieving a question from his memory banks, his eyes light up and the smile returns to his face.
"So, last week you returned, out of the blue and surprised us all..."[/i]
"Yes, you were watching, nice..."[/i]
"Well, why now? And why come back just to have a few matches and retire?"[/i]
Hayden smiles at Coors, expecting this question to be the one straight out of the gates.
"That's two questions Charlie, are you trying to confuse me?
Well, the why now is simple... Because I can. That might sound like a redundant statement, but it's not. The body has been healed, my back doesn't hurt as much as it usually does and the knees, well, the knees are manageable.
As for your second question. I don't want my career to have
"what-if's" attached to it. No strings left untied. I have been around the block long enough that I have fought nearly everybody in the business. I have beaten nearly everybody in the business.
I have won the titles that I wanted to win. I have enough crowns, gold and glory. The ONLY "what-if" that remains unanswered is, can I beat Vladimir Strife.
The return is quite that simple. One chance, one match, just so we all know who the better legend is. Then I am done."[/i]
Coors nods his head as Hayden replies to his question. When the Kiwi finishes, Charlie's face fills with an awkward look. He opens his mouth to ask his next question, then decides against it. After a few seconds, and an inquisitive look from Hayden HardKore, Coors opens his mouth and throws caution to the wind, asking the question anyway.
"There are rumors flying Hayden. I don't mean to disrespect at all, but, people are saying that you have been down this road before. You have announced your retirement before and come back.
Why should we believe you this time, I'd give it two or three months, then you will appear out of the blue again.
Is this really the end?"[/i]
Hayden looks Coors up and down, not quite sure how to take the change in line of questioning. When he opens his mouth, there is no hint of anger or frustration in his voice.
"I know Charlie, I know.
I know that I have talked of retirement before, I know I have disappeared before. Hell, I have given myself to this business, my blood is in that ring. My blood, sweat and tears hold the Glory and Honor Ring together, they are the glue that holds up the foundations of these halls. This is a hard place to just turn around and leave behind.
When Amanda and I went through our very public engagement, and even more public downfall, I left. Needless to say, I needed time to get over that.
When the rest of GHW decided to jump ship to EVPW - I stayed around for a while, then I left to seek out the competition that I needed.
I have left because of injury more than once. I took a sabbatical for an indefinite amount of time when my family needed me back in New Zealand - that felt like a retirement at the time.
Charlie, the difference is that through each of these times, I have had one goal in the back of my mind. Vladimir Strife.
He has plagued my dreams for years. Each time I have returned, in the back of my mind, it has been so that i can fight Strife. Until now, I have not had the opportunity.
This has always been my plan. My career ending match, the one match that I will never top. The one match that I will give so much of myself to, that I will probably never fully recover. Charlie, mark my words here... this is a promise....
After Vladimir Strife, Hayden HardKore retires... Forever."[/i]
Charlie nods as if to motion that he is listening to the Kiwi's answer. Shortly after, Coors asks another follow up question.
"Why is this match so important to you? You mean to say that the only reason you are back is to fight Strife, and then you're done?"[/i]
"That's pretty much what I just said, yes. Why is this match so important? Because since the start of my career, Vladimir Strife has been the epitome of greatness in this business. Every time I step in the ring, my goal is to be the greatest superstar in history. As the herd has thinned out, I surpassed everybody else. The only person left is Vladimir Strife.
No excuses, no second chances. This is all about who is the best. If I come out second, then I will handle that like a man, accept that Strife is the better man and ride off into the sunset as second best in history. If I come out on top, then I have achieved everything I ever set out to achieve.
To beat my idol, that is why I need this."[/i]
Charlie once again smiles at Hayden's direction. Shaking hands, Coors looks to give his final question.
"Thank you for your time Hayden and best of luck for your return match tonight against Mighty Man Milson. Are there any thoughts that you would like to leave with?"[/i]
"No problems Charlie.
Look, I'm not going to stand here and say that I am going to wipe the floors with Vladimir Strife, I'm not insane. This is going to be hell on earth, I know that.
This will be the biggest match of my career. The last hurrah. I have achieved all of the goals that I have set in this business, bar one.
Vladimir...Tepes...Strife."[/i]
Hayden flashes a smile at Charlie Coors before walking off from the view of the camera, leaving Charlie standing facing the camera with his goofy smile on his face once more.
