Monday Night Combat (5/19/08): Second Chances are for Sissies
LIEUTENANT
1. Debut Match
The Legend Slayer v. Cyclone (LMS-docs)
Winner: Cyclone by default
Notes: Cyclone debuts in GHW against The Legend Slayer in a high-risk, high-action LMS match. Slayer qualified for Ultimate X earlier in the month, but due to his experience, he has been removed from the match so that he can promote to the Captain Division for next month. Hang onto your seat for this match.
2. Ultimate X 2nd Chance Qualifier
Agent Tran v. Perfect Combination (Ladder-docs)
Winner: Agent Tran
Notes: I'm not a big fan of giving second chances, but the Ultimate X match at NeXuS only has 4 participants and I want to see some drama unfold with more. In this qualifier, Tran takes on PC. One of these two will get a ticket to the PPV while the other wastes away.
3. Ultimate X 2nd Chance Qualifier
RhinoMan v. Ito Kain v. Fuz (docs)
Winner: Fuz
Notes: In the second Ultimate X 2nd Chance Qualifier, RhinoMan faces Ito Kain and Fuz. I know that RhinoMan will choke once again, but the real question is, who out of Ito and Fuz will make it to the big dance on Sunday?
CAPTAIN
1. RJ Wild v. JH777 (Ladder-docs)
Winner: JH777
Notes: RJ Wild finally picked up his first win since coming back to GHW last week against JH777. Tonight they will have a rematch involving ladders as their feud continues to boil.
2. Tag Team Partner Duel
Sergei Kravinoff v. Skull (Single-docs)
Winner: Skull
Notes: Sergei Kravinoff called me up and asked for a match against his tag team partner, Skull, tonight, so I obliged. The two have not been getting along lately, even though they secured a Silver Tag Title shot at NeXuS this weekend. How is this match going to affect their relationship and chances at tag gold?
3. Non-Title Match
Will Powers v. ValKyrie KD (Ladder-docs)
Winner: ValKyrie KD
Notes: Will Powers stumbled in his best of 3 falls match against Sergei last week and will try to regain ground when he takes on ValKyrie KD. Valk is more dangerous than her good looks show, so Will better not take her lightly, especially when he has a title to defend on Sunday.
4. Table Tournament Finale
Shocker v. Aewyre (Table-Shocker gets docs; Aewyre gets full staff)
Winner: Aewyre
Notes: This match has just been added to Combat due to a couple reasons. First, Shocker was beated by Aewyre earlier in the Tournament and should have been eliminated for good had it not been for the promotion of Truco. Second, Shocker defeated Aewyre last week on Combat, and we need a definitive winner tonight. Lastly, Aewyre should have been crowned the winner of this Tournament, so he will get full staff to Shocker's docs only.
COLONEL
1. Muhammad Hassan v. Dyna Mike Duncan (Single-docs)
Winner: Dyna Mike Duncan
Notes: Jake Steele is a consummate fighter, but he will get tested by the extremely tough and savvy, Mike Duncan. DMD has turned things around after slightly stumbling a few weeks ago, but he is entwined in some drama with Eric, Pennylane and YOUNG GANGSTA recently. After this singles match, he will have to get ready for a big tag match later on tonight, but the dynamic one can handle it.
2. Matthew Oliveira v. Psycho Savage (Table-docs)
Winner: Psycho Savage
Notes: Ollie will get his head smashed in and then his body thrown through a table tonight by Psycho Savage. What else is new?
3. Terremoto v. War Child (Ladder-docs)
Winner: Terremoto
Notes: War Child and Terremoto aren't the typical Superstars you see climbing ladders everyday, but that's what will happen tonight. One of these big men will get outside his element and use some hardware to get the job done.
4. HawkEye v. Slim Shady (LMS-docs)
Winner: Slim Shady
Notes: HawkEye had to face off in a singles match against the Colonel Champ last week after Big Closet got hurt and was unable to fight in their triple threat. Hawk fell prey once again to Big Daddy, and now looks to get some redemption against Slim Shady. Problem is, Slim is not an easy opponent to do away with.
5. Non-Title Deathmatch
Big Daddy v. CHARISMATIC HARDY (LMS-no staff)
Winner: Big Daddy
Notes: Big Daddy took exception to his loss against CHARISMATIC HARDY a couple weeks ago, and this rematch has been in the works ever since. This is no ordinary rematch, however. These two behemoths will face off in a Deathmatch, the same match that brought the Colonel Title into the arms of Big Daddy in the first place. Is Big Daddy biting off more than he can chew before the huge PPV, NeXuS?
GENERAL
1. Non-Title Match
Luke Kinkade v. Martin Prince (Single-docs)
Winner: Martin Prince
Notes: Luke has had some uncharacteristic troubles this month, but he will try to pave a smooth path going into next month with a win over Martin Prince. Luke is not scheduled to defend his belt on Sunday, which is a good thing in my opinion. Martin will be in the MITB Rumble, and if successful, may have a future date with Luke.
2. Money in the Bank 2nd Chance Qualifier
Pennylane v. Gnarfflinger (Single-docs)
Winner: Gnarfflinger
Notes: Second chances are for sissies, but Pennylane and Gnarfflinger will get just that when each tries to qualify for Money in the Bank tonight. With 3 Superstars already in the big match at NeXuS, one of these two could join them in hopes to one day become a champion.
3. Money in the Bank Qualifier
Joao Gomes v. I Always Lose (Single-docs)
Winner: Joao Gomes
Notes: I can't think of a better way of debuting in GHW than trying to Qualify for the huge Money in the Bank Rumble at NeXuS. That will be Joao Gomes' opportunity tonight, but he must get past the recently elusive I Always Lose.
TAG TEAM
1. Debut Match
Cousins of Destruction v. The X Perience (docs)
Winner: Cousins of Destruction
Notes: The Cousins of Destruction, Joao Gomes and Black Dead, will debut as a tag team tonight against my tag team namesake, The X Perience. Although this new tag sounds intriguing, it's no doubt they will be no challenge to my duo. I think it will be a decent match though.
2. HD Ultimate v. Natural Disasters (docs)
Winner: HD Ultimate
Notes: HD Ultimate were great in their debut last week over the BoE. Now they get a stiffer challenge against a pair of veterans known as the Natural Disasters.
3. The Wild Childz v. Black Out (docs)
Winner: Black Out
Notes: There are only 3 teams in the Bronze Tag Division, and two of them tangle tonight on Combat. The other team is the Bronze Champs, Unleashed Rage. The winner of this match will face Unleashed Rage at NeXuS, however, if the match is not finished by then, I will pick which one I want to fight on Sunday.
4. Perfect Wonder v. Allaryian Warriors (docs)
Winner: Allaryian Warriors
Notes: I've been waiting to see Perfect Wonder in action again, and the wait is finally over. Their opponents will be the strong Allaryian Warriors. This should be an exciting tag team match between two potential Silver Tag Champs someday.
5. Hardcore Tag Team Match
Dyna Mike Duncan and YOUNG GANGSTA v. Skull & Crossbones (1-1-1)
Winner: Dyna Mike Duncan and YOUNG GANGSTA
Notes: If you haven't been paying attention to the story between these four Superstars, then you've had your head in the sand. Mike wants revenge over Eric, Pennylane and YG for the events that unfolded in ValKyrie's attack. Eric wants revenge over YG for stealing Mr. Beaks. Pennylane is confused as to whether Eric is 100% dedicated to Skull & Crossbones. Mr. Beaks wants to become a Gold Tag Team Champion. YOUNG GANGSTA loves tormenting Eric. And in other news, the brown stuff is gonna hit the fan tonight, and continue into NeXuS.
