Monday Night Combat (1/26/09): Dawning of a New Age of Destruction
LIEUTENANT
1. Extreme Ladder Tournament
YOUNG GANGSTA v. Luke Kinkade (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: YOUNG GANGSTA
Notes: DUMB GANGSTA got some sense knocked into him last night at Winter Fury when Essa Rios dismantled his former tag team partner in an extreme ladders match. Tonight, YG will have to do it all over again but this time against the returning Luke Kinkade.
2. Extreme Ladder Tournament
Essa Rios v. Ultimate Gene (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: Essa Rios
Notes: Essa Rios knows how to win Extreme Ladder matches as evidenced by his dominant victory of YG last night at Winter Fury. Tonight he takes on another familiar face, Ultimate Gene. Essa has this one in the bag.
3. Extreme Ladder Tournament
Destroyer v. Kahlan (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: Kahlan
Notes: Destroyer and Kahlan are an odd duo as a tag team, and after Winter Fury, no one knows if they will still team together in the future. Tonight I'm going to give them some one-on-one time to settle their differences. This is an extreme ladder match train wreck waiting to happen.
CAPTAIN
1. Pick Your Poison Tournament
The Ultimate Kid v. Torjio Kazukuni (LMS-docs)
Winner: The Ultimate Kid by default
Notes: Torjio fell short last night against Captain Champion Samoa Machine, but he can't fault his efforts last month in his early GHW career. Tonight, he gets to start anew, and it's going to be a destructive beginning because he faces UK in a LMS Pick Your Poison match.
2. Pick Your Poison Tournament
Unknown Soldier v. The Heartbreak Kid (Cage-docs)
Winner: Unknown Soldier by default
Notes: Unknown Soldier came out of nowhere at Winter Fury to sign his name on the RhinoMan Petition to round out the 20 Superstars....that means hell for the newbie. I don't care if you're new, old or middle of the road...if your name is on that Petition, you will suffer this month. Let's start you off with a Cage against HBK.
3. Pick Your Poison Tournament
Tommy Musashi v. Tito Ortiz (Table-docs)
Winner: Tommy Musashi
Notes: Tommy Musashi lost his Captain X-Force Championship last night at Winter Fury, and I couldn't be happier. That's what you get when you go against the X. Marcus Airbourne decimated Tommy in a LMS, and now tonight Tommy gets to be even more worse for wear when he faces Tito in a table match.
4. Non-Title Match
Samoa Machine v. RhinoMan (LMS-docs)
Winner: Samoa Machine
Notes: I promised that if RhinoMan was reinstated into GHW that Samoa Machine would be the first to face him. That doesn't work out too well for Rhino though because after he gets KO'd by Samoa, he has to fight his Pick Your Poison Tournament match. It's not gonna be a fun homecoming for the war machine, but I'm gonna enjoy every minute of it.
5. Pick Your Poison Tournament
RhinoMan v. Eric The Torture (LMS-docs)
Winner: RhinoMan
Notes: RhinoMan may not be officially in the Captain Division, but I've decided that I will torture him by promoting him early. After getting trampled on by the Captain Champion, Samoa Machine, Rhino will face his friend, Eric The Torture in a first round PYP match. Eric may have won the Lieutenant X-Force Championship last night in controversial fashion, but he is no longer the Champion due to promotion. So much for being a Champion, Eric.
COLONEL
1. Extreme Ladder Tournament
Malrcriado Beast v. Euroman (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: Malcriado Beast by default
Notes: MB and Euroman will be the first two Colonel Superstars to kick off the Extreme Ladder Tournament in their division. Anything goes and will go in this match that will specifically features more ladders than anyone knows what to do with.
2. Extreme Ladder Tournament
Luther v. RJ Wild (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: Luther
Notes: Luther has been tapped to be the next Colonel X-Force Champion, but all he has to do is pick a General Division Superstar who can beat Dyna Mike Duncan next week on Combat. In the meantime, he will face RJ Wild in an Extreme Ladder Tournament match tonight.
GENERAL
1. Death Sentence Tournament
Black Dead v. Gnarfflinger (LMS-no staff)
Winner: Black Dead
Notes: Prepare to suffer immensely. That's the motto of the Death Sentence Tournament, and the first two suckers are Black Dead and Gnarfflinger. I hope these two don't have good health insurance because that will make it an even more painful evening for them. Hopefully Gnarff brings his extreme cookwear.
2. Death Sentence Tournament
ValKyrie KD v. I Always Lose (LMS-no staff)
Winner: I Always Lose
Notes: Kelly Duncan came up short in becoming Ms. Money in the Bank last night, but that doesn't mean she won't bring a massive attack against I Always Lose in a first round Death Sentence match tonight.
3. Death Sentence Tournament
Backyard Brawler 2 v. Angelus (LMS-no staff)
Winner: Angelus
Notes: Angelus couldn't surpass Big Daddy last night at Winter Fury, but he did have a great month that will most likely spill into this month. His first round opponent in the Death Sentence Tournament is BB2, and this should be a pretty evenly matched bout.
4. Death Sentence Tournament
Muhammad Hassan v. CHARISMATIC HARDY (LMS-no staff)
Winner: Muhammad Hassan
Notes: Jake Steel and CH are two veteran grapplers who will fight to no cost to defeat their opponent on any single night. That makes this matchup an intriguing one that will leave both extremely bloody and beaten.
5. Non-Title Match
Genesis 1 v. StrikerLT (Cage-docs)
Winner: StrikerLT
Notes: The General X-Force Champion, Genesis, had the night off at Winter Fury as there were really no clear-cut contenders to face him, and most of the General Division was busy with the Last Laugh Tournament or Money in the Bank last month. Tonight he takes on StrikerLT inside a cage to shake off any ring rust he may have.
TAG TEAM
1. Debut Match
The Battalion v. Demolition (docs)
Winner: The Battalion
Notes: The Battalion debut in the Bronze Tag Division tonight as they face Demolition, who are looking for their first win. Can the new team make its mark and rise to the top? My guess is no.
2. Lost Cause v. Dark Bulldogs (docs)
Winner: Lost Cause
Notes: Has Lost Cause fell apart as a team lately? Dark Bulldogs don't care, and neither do I. It will be fun to see DBs take care of business as usual tonight.
