Monday Night Combat (2/2/09): Cages of Death
LIEUTENANT
1. Non-Title Match
The Master v. Destroyer (Cage-docs)
Winner: The Master
Notes: The Master may be the Lieutenant Champion, but an Extreme Ladder specialist is going to face him at Dawn of Destruction for his title this month. A cage match with Destroyer should get Billy in the right mood. Destroyer could sure use the win too.
2. Extreme Ladder Tournament
Martin Prince v. Kahlan (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: Martin Prince
Notes: Martin Prince rolled over Allanon in the first round of Extreme Ladders, but now he must take on Kahlan, who is a ladder expert. On top of that, Martin insulted Kahlan on his Shocking Moments show this past week and Kahlan wants revenge. This could be the match of the night.
3. Extreme Ladder Tournament
Rock II v. YOUNG GANGSTA (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: YOUNG GANGSTA
Notes: Rock II defeated trickshot and YG took out Luke Kinkade to set up this second round Extreme Ladder Tournament match. It doesn't get any easier from here.
CAPTAIN
1. Eric The Torture v. HaydenHardKore (Single-docs)
Winner: Eric The Torture via no-show
Notes: ETT was forced to face RhinoMan last week in Rhino's big return to GHW, but ETT couldn't get the job done. Tonight, Eric takes on The Grammar Fairy if he even shows up.
2. Non-Title Match
Samoa Machine v. The Heartbreak Kid (Cage-docs)
Winner: Samoa Machine
Notes: Samoa Machine gets inside a steel cage with HBK tonight in Non-Title action. HBK was absent from duty last week, but rumors are abound that he will be available for this match. Can Samoa keep up his thrashing of his Division?
3. Non-Title Match
Marcus Airbourne v. Tito Ortiz (Table-docs)
Winner: Marcus Airbourne
Notes: Marcus is quite the Champion, and it's not going to be easy for Tito to slam him through a table for the victory tonight. Tito is coming off a tough Pick Your Poison loss to Tommy Musashi last week, and he needs to make an impact tonight to keep himself in competition.
COLONEL
1. Extreme Ladder Tournament
The Unabomber v. Luther (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: Luther
Notes: The Unabomber is undefeated in his two matches in GHW so far, but tonight he faces the challenge of a tough veteran in Luther. Both were impressive last week in round 1, which makes this match even more unpredictable.
2. Extreme Ladder Tournament
Malcriado Beast v. Lunchtime Legend (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: Malcriado Beast
Notes: Lunchtime Legend was just promoted to the Colonel Division, and I figured why not throw him into the Extreme Ladder Tournament in the second round? MB got a win by default already, so it only makes sense that Double L gets a BYE too.
3. Extreme Ladder Tournament
HawkEye v. War Child (Ladder-1-1-1)
Winner: HawkEye via no-show
Notes: War Child earned the first round bye in the Extreme Ladder Tournament and Hawkeye got by Sergei. Is it HawkEye's chance to finally get back atop the Division this month?
GENERAL
1. Death Sentence Tournament
Dyna Mike Duncan v. Muhammad Hassan (Cage-no staff)
Winner: Muhammad Hassan
Notes: Dyna Mike Duncan did what he does best last Friday when he defeated two General Superstars in his debut in the Division. If that wasn't enough, one of those matches was a Colonel X-Force Title match and the other was a Death Sentence match. We could see DMD jump right to the top of the rankings if he can keep it up, but it won't be easy. Tonight he faces Jake Steele in an unforgiving cage match.
2. Death Sentence Tournament
Black Dead v. Pennylane (Cage-no staff)
Winner: Pennylane
Notes: Black Dead and Pennylane have locked up in the past, but never in a Death Sentence cage match of this caliber. Pennylane can send a strong message to the anti-X group with a big victory tonight.
3. Death Sentence Tournament
I Always Lose v. Angelus (Cage-no staff)
Winner: Angelus via no-show
Notes: The Last Laugh tournament winner Angelus is on a roll again this month in Death Sentence and could make it two Tourney wins in a row if he keeps it up. His competitor tonight is I Always Lose, and if there's one thing to know about him, his name is misleading.
4. Death Sentence Tournament
StrikerLT v. Slim Shady (Cage-no staff)
Winner: StrikerLT
Notes: StrikerLT got a very lucky BYE in round one and was able to avoid potential injuries in the brutal LMS matches. That is not the case tonight, however, we he gets inside a steel cage with Slim Shady/Falling Angel in round 2.
TAG TEAM
1. Non-Title Match
One Machine v. Brutal Thugs
Winner: One Machine
Notes: One Machine and Brutal Thugs had a war of words last week during Rhino's return to GHW, and I think a rematch between these tag teams is an appropriate response. Will the return of the Brutal Thugs be a successful one, or have the Bronze Champs honed their game to defeat them?
2. Debut Match
Anarchy v. Guerreros de la Calle (docs)
Winner: Guerreros de la Calle via no-show
Notes: Anarchy is the newest Gold Tag Team in GHW and they will debut tonight against Guerreros de la Calle, who need to start clicking as a team. Is Anarchy a team that should be feared by other Gold Tag Teams?
3. Catastrophic Duo v. ReVamped (docs)
Winner: Catastrophic Duo
Notes: Catastrophic Duo got back on the winning side of things with a huge victory on Mayhem this past week. Now let's see if they can make it two in a row against ReVamped. One team will get a Title shot again this month, and only time will tell if it's CD again.
