Monday Night Combat (5/25/09): Memorial Day Bash
LIEUTENANT
1. Master of the Mat
War Machine v. Stevie Rock (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 2 Falls: War Machine
Notes: This year's Master of the Mat Tournament opens up with Lieutenant Division newcomers, War Machine and Stevie Rock, clashing in a best of 3 singles competition. The winner with the best mat skills will advance to the next round where he will inch closer to earning an expensive ring and a Title shot.
2. Master of the Mat
Spike Flynn v. Raistlin Majere (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner by default: Spike Flynn
Notes: Spike Flynn tangles with Raistlin Majere in their first round Master of the Mat pairing, and it will be fun to see which of these two young horses has what it takes to make an impression in the Lieutenant Division.
3. Master of the Mat
trickshot v. John The Crusher (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 3 Falls: John The Crusher
Notes: trickshot faces off with John The Crusher in his first round Master of the Mat match. A fluke win won't be enough for either of these two as they'll have to win at least 2 matches to advance. I can see these two superstars going all 3 matches.
4. Master of the Mat
Martin Prince v. Ultimate Gene (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 2 Falls: Martin Prince
Notes: Martin Prince will get his Lieutenant X-Force Championship match on Friday, but before then, he'll have to focus on defeating Ultimate Gene in their Best of 3 series in Master of the Mat action. Gene is my favorite to win this one in two straight clean victories.
CAPTAIN
1. Master of the Mat
The Angel of Darkness v. Essa Rios (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 2 Falls: The Angel of Darkness
Notes: Angel of Darkness debuts in the Captain Division tonight and it's gonna be one heck of an important debut. He faces Essa Rios in a Best of 3 Master of the Mat series in round 1. Whichever of these two can use his technical skills the best will advance.
2. Master of the Mat
RhinoMan v. The Master (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 3 Falls: The Master
Notes: RhinoMan is nothing more than a curtain jerker, and after The Master defeats him in two matches, he'll go back to the showers and mope as he always does. Maybe Rhino will cry to one of his Crimson buddies too.
3. Master of the Mat
Luke Kinkade v. Destroyer (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Fall 1: Luke Kinkade
Notes: Destroyer won last month's Tournament, but couldn't seal the deal against Unknown Soldier in the Title match at NeXuS. This month, he'll try to make it two Tournaments in a row with a spectacular mat show. That is, if he doesn't overlook the incredible power and brute force that is named Luke Kinkade. This best of 3 series has show-stealer written all over it.
COLONEL
1. Master of the Mat
Tito Ortiz v. Unknown Soldier (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 3 Falls: Tito Ortiz
Notes: Unknown Soldier dominated the Captain Division for the past 3 months, but now he moves on to the Colonel Division where his opponents are not so forgiving. His first challenge will be Tito Ortiz, who is looking to crush US in hopes of earning a Colonel Title someday soon. This will be an intriguing Master of the Mat series to say the least.
2. Master of the Mat
Euroman v. RJ Wild (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 3 Falls: RJ Wild
Notes: Euroman lost his Colonel Championship in a huge upset to the incredibly hot-streaking Malcriado Beast at NeXuS. The Latin Beast was too much to handle, but Euroman will try to exact revenge by taking out another Latino, RJ Wild, in the Master of the Mat Tournament.
GENERAL
1. Master of the Mat
Lunchtime Legend v. Sergei Kravinoff (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 2 Falls: Lunchtime Legend
Notes: Double L and Sergei Kravinoff should put on a hell of a show tonight when they clash in first round Master of the Mat action. Both are veterans in the ring, and both have a great arsenals in their possession. This one is going to the third bell.
2. Master of the Mat
Big Closet v. Muhammad Hassan (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 2 Falls: Muhammad Hassan
Notes: Big Closet faces Jake Steele in first round Master of the Mat competition and the advantage may be with Jake who likes to keep things technical. Big Closet has the strength, but can he outwit Jake and his skills?
3. Master of the Mat
CHARISMATIC HARDY v. Gnarfflinger (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 3 Falls: Gnarfflinger
Notes: The Fighty fighty person from the Mountains is looking to start off the month with a bang as he faces The Man with the Frying Pan in a first round Master of the Mat series. These two match up pretty evenly, and so it's going to take some extra effort from one to edge past the other.
4. Master of the Mat
Pennylane v. Slim Shady (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 3 Falls: Pennylane
Notes: Pennylane and Slim Shady are familiar opponents, and that means that this series is definitely going to go three deep as they try to outmaneuver each other. Penny has silently been solid with his in-ring action the past month or so, and it's possibly time for him to make the next big step. Slim is not an easy first round draw, however.
TAG TEAM
1. Master of the Mat
Supreme Soldiers v. Brutal Thugs (Best of 3 tag-docs)
Winner in 2 Falls: Supreme Soldiers
Notes: Supreme Soldiers are going to take on Brutal Thugs to kick off Master of the Mat. The Bronze Division will be the only tag division to host the Tournament, so it will be fun to see these teams battle in this format.
2. Master of the Mat
Demolition v. Lyoto Matchida/Random (Best of 3 tag-docs)
Winner in 2 Falls: Lyoto Matchida/Random
Notes: Demolition will be taking on Lyoto Matchida and Random in a Best of 3 Master of the Mat series tonight. Both of these teams have a lot to prove in tag action, and this could be the platform that pushes them to the next level. Sharing time in the ring will be a key to victory in this series.
3. The Battalion v. Hells Advocates (docs)
Winner: The Battalion
Notes: The Battalion and Hells Advocates will square off in the final tag match of the evening. Both Silver Teams will be hoping to earn the #1 contendership in their Division this month, and with the slim competition around, it's quite possible we'll see one of these teams at Tried and Convicted.
LIEUTENANT
1. Master of the Mat
War Machine v. Stevie Rock (Best of 3 Singles-docs)
Winner in 2 Falls: War Machine

Winner in 3 Falls: John The Crusher
Notes: trickshot faces off with John The Crusher in his first round Master of the Mat match. A fluke win won't be enough for either of these two as they'll have to win at least 2 matches to advance. I can see these two superstars going all 3 matches.
