GHW Live! is all set to begin. The fans in the arena have stocked up on snacks and drinks, the technical crew have long since finished the set, and the commentators are seated, waiting for the go-ahead to address the people at home. Charlie Coors hypes the fans up, getting them to scream for their favourite superstars, and boo for their villains. When the crew are ready, Coors begins to countdown with the excited fans, as the title graphics roll on the titantron. The fans whoop and cheer as the camera pans across the bleachers, with many a spotlight dancing over them. The feed switches to the commentary area, where Colin Jennings and “Big” Al Mulligan are sat, ready to call the nights proceedings as they happen.
“Welcome to GHW Live, which comes right off the back of another GREAT GHW pay-per-view!”
“It wasn't that good. I wouldn't have shelled out for it...”
“I think anyone who saw what happened last Sunday will know why Al is a bit low tonight. If you don't know this already, we have a NEW New Age Champion, and he is Dominik-”
Colin is cut off from his jubilant recap of Red, White and Bruised by the opening guitar riffs of Babylon Zoo's “Animal Army”, which immediately cause these fans to boo to their hearts content. Out from the curtain steps The Master Mentalist, Ryan Hughes, and at first impressions you can tell he isn't happy. Hughes, in his new “Vintage Batmanite” t-shirt, surveys the waiting crowd from the stage, before beginning his walk to the ring. He keeps looking down, obviously carrying less weight with his dear championship belt taken from his grasp. He looks on the verge of tears, even. The seconds seem like hours for the Chief Batmanite, as he nears the ring, albeit slowly. As he reaches the steel steps, he pauses, holding his stomach to feel the void where his New Age title used to be. Knowing it was in the hands of Dominik Snatiago sickened him to his very core.
“On his way to the ring, the FORMER GHW New Age Champion... Ryan Hughes!”
Ryan's eyes immediately switch to Charlie Coors, and Charlie, regrettably, knows why. Hughes storms up the steel steps, making a clunking sound at each step, eyes locked on the terrified announcer. Thinking fast, Coors drops his microphone to the canvas, before high-tailing it out of the ring, leaving the Mancunian a wide berth. Hughes stops in the center of the ring, giving up his pursuit. He picks up the falling microphone, and begins to speak in a disturbed tone.
“Ever since Sunday, all I have heard is Dominik Santiago beat Ryan Hughes. Dominik Santiago is New Age Champion. Dominik Santiago is the face of the company. Dominik Santiago this. Dominik Santiago that. Dominik fucking Santiago!”
The fans cheer at the sound of their hero's name, not to mention the fact it was said no less than six times in procession. This irks Hughes even more, as he tries to speak over the noisy faithful.
“I, quite frankly, am sick of it. I remember only weeks ago when I was hailed as the man to lead Glory and Honor Wrestling through the new decade, in to a realm of prosperity. It was all sunshine and rainbows and happy, happy faces back then! And what happened? Santiago got lucky. He took advantage of one little mistake, and he hit the SKO. Simple enough. His victory WAS a fluke. He managed to sneak one out in a one on one match. I had to fight tooth and nail through 11 other men to become the champion. I did the legwork. He reaps the benefits.”
The cheers suddenly turn to boos. Nevertheless, Hughes carries on.
“He feasts on the crop I harvested! He drinks the wine that I created! He is a thief! Nothing more, nothing less!”
The boos become more violent, and a chant of “FUCK YOU BATMAN!” fills the sold out arena. Ryan gives them time to calm down, before calming down himself.
“I know what you guys are thinking. Poor old Ryan is jealous because his spotlight was taken from him. Well, in a way, you are right. See, since last Sunday, I have been in a state of paranoia. I thought that my problems would begin to snowball on me. Just like last time I lost the strap. I was prepared this time however, and I saw it through. I said to myself...
My time isn't up yet.”
Hughes begins to pace back and forth, picking up his voice once more.
“I am not, nor will I ever be, the forgotten man. I will never be history's afterthought. I am somebody. And I swear, that New Age Championship will come home with me soon enough. You know It doesn't matter what you had for dinner!
Because I'm Ryan Hughes.”
The Batman drops the mic, prompting the restart of “Animal Army”. The ex-champion leaves the ring, not looking back once.
“Now that was childish. Way to rain on our parade.”
“How? He simply stated that he is Ryan Hughes!”
“And Ryan Hughes is in action tonight, fighting Young Gangsta, who just lost out on the Television Championship on Sunday. Stay tuned, because next up, we have Jade Brooklyn pitting her skills against two newcomers in Lance Dukes and Dustin Danielson. Don't go anywhere!”
