Takes place directly after DOD.
The camera catches up with Sam Keane backstage as he steps out of his locker room. Charlie Coors calls out with camera in hand to catch the young man’s attention. Sam stops in his tracks upon hearing Charlie’s voice and turns to face the camera head on. He sets his bag down slowly clasping his side as he prepares to speak.
Sam” Hey Charlie, what’s up man? Anything I can help you with?”
CC” Sam thanks for stopping, I was just wondering if I could get a few words with you on how it feels to make your debut.”
Sam” Sure man, fire away.”
CC” Ok, let’s start with how you feel? Do you feel you made a good first impression on the fans tonight?”
Sam” Well I’m sure you can tell I’m a little banged up right now and rightly so. I mean I was in the ring with 3 very tough competitors tonight so it was to be expected. As far as my first impression went, well I went out there and gave 100 percent so as long as the audience realises that I’m happy enough.”
Sam moves his hand from his side, trying to mask the after effects of the hellacious match up.
CC” There was a notable size difference when we did the tale of the tape, how do you feel that affected your performance?”
Sam” Charlie if you’re asking me if I was at a disadvantage going into this contest, then the answer would have to be yes. But in all honesty that’s nothing new to me, sure one of the guys was a foot taller than me and the other guy was 70 pounds heavier but these are issues I’ve faced all my life. From day one I’ve had the deck stacked against me because of my physical attributes and people haven’t been shy in letting me know about them. You’re too small, you’re not strong enough, you’ll never do anything in this business. And yet here I’m standing here talking to you live on pay per view despite all my faults. I may not be able to bench press 400 pounds or dead lift the back end of a car like some of the other stars on the roster but I don’t need too. I use my own strengths to my advantage, I’m faster, more agile and a hell of a lot more athletic than half the roster. Whilst some of them are comfortable beating seven shades of snot out of each other or smashing chairs across their skulls, I’m most at home in the air. I feel a sense of tranquillity, calmness if you will while I’m soaring through the air because for those few fleeting seconds I am truly free. “
CC” You were eliminated second from the battle royal, your thoughts?”
With that question, Sam looks pensive for a moment, scratching his head taking a moment before answering. Not wanting to show any disrespect to any of his opponents.
Sam” Yes I was eliminated second from the match up and I suck cocks at that point I was up against two veterans in my first televised experience. I just hope that all of those fans who paid to come to the show and those who spent their hard earned money to watch on Pay per view felt they got their money’s worth. Now I’m under no illusion here, I know no one paid to come and see Sam Keane tonight, hell the guys on EVO can put more asses in seats than I can. Some people probably used my match as a toilet break, that’s just something I’m going to have to accept. But hopefully somewhere there was someone who witnessed my performance tonight and thought if he can do it so can I. Hopefully through my performance I was able to brighten up just one persons day, maybe it was a kid who just got home from being bullied at school or the guy who got hammered by his boss all day at work. If I can brighten up their day by offering them a release from their personal problems for ten minutes by flying across the ring then it’s all worth it. The fans are the reason I’m here and the reason I’m willing to put my body on the line week after week and if me living my dream helps them achieve theirs then I’ve done my job.”
CC” Ok I’m running out of time here, so I guess one more question, this was your first match, were you nervous at all?”
Sam” Nervous? At first I was then I stepped through that curtain and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on edge. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins urging me on like a junkie who just had a fix. I hope I never lose that feeling, I never want to become one of those jaded pre Madonna’s who take this business for granted. Those who run around demanding things or feel that this industry owes them because of past glories. When I get out there it’s all about one thing, the fans and I’ll continue to go out there night after night and give it my all against guys who are bigger, stronger and more talented than me. They might beat me night after night but the one thing they can’t take away from me is my heart. I am the perennial underdog, so watch out because one of these days I just might bite.”
With that Sam lifts his bag whilst retrieving a can of red bull from it, he winks and points at the camera before walking away smiling ear to ear.
