A must see for all GHW fans!
The GHW Arena is buzzing with anticipation, as it has been for the last few weeks lately. Major events, left right and centre, have given these fans cause enough to come back to Boston week after week. You know, just the way it should be. The night is already in full swing, with flashy matches leaving the fans in a state of awe and excitement.
But the night has only just got started.
Because at that moment, Charlie Coors ventured to the middle of the squared circle. Not to announce the participants of the next match, but to do something he hasn’t done in a good while – an in-ring interview. A smile creeps on to his face as he readies himself, and without delay, Coors addresses the packed-in crowd.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to introduce my guest at this time. ..
A man who is returning to the active roster for the first time in 2011, he is RYAN HUGHES!”
The fans, they go crazy. Their screams and cheers almost force the admittedly cheap roof off of this building. At that moment, “Would?” by Alice in Chains creeps through the speakers, but because of the decibels caused by the pandemonium, it is impossible to hear anything until the song kicks in. At the top of the ramp, a figure can be seen making his way through the curtains; that figure being a man who hasn’t appeared in his wrestling gear since Christmas when he fought Jake Diamond to a no contest. Ryan Hughes has come back to wrestle in Glory and Honor Wrestling once more.
”Know me broken by my master
Teach thee a child, love hereafter
Into the flood again,
Same old trip it was back then,
So I made a big mistake,
Try to see it once my way.”
“Can you believe this Al? Ryan Hughes is back on the roster!”
“Yeah, no more crappy commentary gigs for this guy!”
The former New Age Champion struts out on to the stage for all to see. He dons a dark set of wrestling tights, with different eroded patterns coloured blue adorning each leg. The shirt he wears is the same as always, his “Vintage Batmanite” shirt. Taking his time to absorb the adulation from the crowd, he walks slowly down the ramp way, stretching out his arms slightly to fully soak in the positive energy. Bringing his arms down, he looks over to a nearby camera, before leaning in and shouting “They love me, they really love me!”.
Eventually, the winner of the 2010 NeXuS Deathmatch clambers up the steps, and enters the ring. Charlie shuffles towards the ropes to give the Mancunian as much space as he needs, obviously not wanting to be kicked in the temple or anything like that. The ex-champion climbs the turnbuckle furthest away from him, before thrusting his right arm in to the air, garnering some more cheers. Ryan jumps down on to the canvas, before turning his head to Coors, who is ready to talk to the veteran.
“Ryan, first of all, welcome back to Tuesday Night Triumph and-“
The Batman holds a finger up to mute Charlie, who is a little taken aback. Ryan removes the finger from in front of Coors’ lips, before running to the ropes, and raising his fists in to the air. The fans on that side of the arena burst in to cheers for the Mancunian Mentalist, who smiles in return. Having his moment of fun, he returns to Coors’, not before raising Charlies mic up to his level.
“Heh, they’re like puppets. You were saying?”
“Um, yes. Now Ryan, why have you chosen now to return? Why did you leave in the first place for that matter?”
“Well Charlie, the answer to that is simple. I left because I just didn’t see any point in being here. Let us go back to this time last year. H-Games 2010. I was already wondering what else I could do in the company, you know, after winning NeXuS and multiple New Age Championships. And to be honest, I was getting bored with being in that set of guys on top. No one was breaking through that glass ceiling. Any GHW fan can tell you I headlined over half of last year’s PPVs alone. There was only me, Hayden HardKore, Dominik Santiago, Metal Dragon. I am honestly not sure whether anyone else held the New Age Championship last year. So I was disillusioned. But I did try to spark the interest, believe me. I fought Hayden HardKore at Blood Runs Cold, and I lost out. But I put on a bloody good match while doing so. It was at that point where I decided enough was enough, so I spoke to Smarky Smark, and he granted my wish for a leave of absence. I did a lot of things in my time away. I went home, I saw my family, and I got myself a season ticket to see my beloved Manchester City play football. I followed them all around the country, and they won the FA Cup last month. I had fun.
But something was missing, and suddenly I found myself calling Smarky, and giving him pointers from a fans point of view about the show. You may not know it, but I was the one who suggested the company be split in to two shows. Yes, it may have been for my own selfish gain, but it hasn’t failed yet, has it?”
Charlie asks a question, as soon as the fans finish cheering for the comments about the successful brand extension.
“You say that your idea of a brand extension was for your own selfish gains… would you care to deliberate on that?”
“Sure. You see, I said before how it was always the same old same old at the top of the show each week… but I thought of a way to stop this from happening. That was when I gave the boss the idea of a second show. I thought that maybe if there was more talent over two shows, there would be more competition and chances for people to shine. And I was right! Look at Shawn Dreamer, Kahlan Clarkson, Dustin Delta, Spike Steel... are you telling me they would have gotten any chance to take a ball and run with it if there was only two hours of show to work with? No!
And this, this is why I came back. I stuck my head through the door a few times on commentary, just to be sure- but I knew for certain that since I’ve been gone, GHW has changed for the better. I can return safe in the knowledge that there are more people around who can kick my ass on a weekly basis. And do you know what? I don’t mind getting tossed around this ring, because it’s all for the greater good. At the end of the day, there are many folk around who can put on a brilliant match in this company, this is simply my way of saying that I am now one of them.”
And on that note, the returning Ryan Hughes pushes the mic in to Charlie Coors’ chest, as “Would?” hits the speakers once more. As Hughes leaves to an ovation that some would say is “swish as fuck”, the commentators are left wondering what will become of the company from here on.
“Well there you have it, Ryan Hughes is officially back in GHW!”
“And about time too. I don’t know what he was talking about before, because this show has been dire without our Mancunian Mastodon!”
“That’s your opinion, fatass. I think that this already great show just got even better!”
Words cannot begin to describe what's in store for GHW!
