Monday Night Combat (4/23/07): First Steps to NeXuS
SERGEANT
1. High Flying Sabu v. Alex Stall (Single-docs)
Winner: High Flying Sabu
Match Hype: Alex is sick of not competing. He's joined the main roster, but none of his opponents have shown up to fight. This week that should change, however, as he takes on High Flying Sabu, who's always ready for a fight.
LIEUTENANT
1. Matthew Oliveira v. Human Wreckingball (Single-docs)
Winner: Human Wreckingball
Match Hype: Matt wants to get on course in the Lieutenant Division after losing several disappointing matches lately. Human Wreckingball always puts in his best efforts when he fights, so this should be an entertaining match for all the fans.
2. The amazing Noe v. Mike Lethal (Single-docs)
Winner: The amazing Noe
Match Hype: Noe needs to win again. She's been narrowly defeated in her recent outings, but her job is not easy this week when she faces a very tough opponent in Mike Lethal.
CAPTAIN
1. The Power House v. Genesis 1 (Single-docs)
Winner: Genesis 1
Match Hype: The Power House is knocking everyone around lately and is making a good case to enter the Money in the Bank match and take home the briefcase. If he can hang along in the Captain Division, he may get that chance. Genesis is undefeated in GHW and faces his toughest foe so far. This match is going to rock the arena tonight.
2. Money in the Bank Qualifier
Mighty John Quinn v. DM Punk (Single-docs)
Winner: DM Punk by default
Match Hype: In the first qualifying match for Money in the Bank, Surge Superstars MJQ and DM Punk square off to prove they can hang in their new division. A win here could give one of them hope for a bright future and possibly a Title shot whenever they want in the next 3 months.
3. Non-Title Match
King Bear v. Bigguns88 (Cage-docs)
Winner: King Bear
Match Hype: King Bear is happily sitting on his throne with the Captain Championship over his shoulder. Bigguns would love nothing else but to knock him down a notch or two to bring him back to reality. A cage match should serve the purpose.
COLONEL
1. Table Tournament Match
Smart Rocket v. Rock II (Table-docs)
Winner: Rock II
Match Hype: Smart Rocket and Rock II will kick off the Colonel Division Table Tournament. Both have the skills to succeed and both are the future of the division. Only one will advance, though, so this will be very hard fought and intense.
2. Table Tournament Match
The Masterpiece 3 v. Rey 619 (Table-docs)
Winner: The Masterpiece 3 by default
Match Hype: In the second round 1 Table Tournament match, Dirk will take on Rey 619. Dirk is dying to prove that he deserves the Colonel Championship and will do practically anything to reach that goal. Rey will try to thwart Dirk from his dream and play spoiler. Rey could be a future Champion with a win here.
3. Non-Title Match
Hawkeye v. y2000j (Ladder-docs)
Winner: y2000j
Match Hype: y2000j has been steam rolling the competition so far in GHW and he'll add to his nice resume if he can defeat the Champion in a ladder match tonight. Hawkeye has 2 wins in a row, so he may be onto something. Only time will tell.
GENERAL
1. Gnarfflinger v. Zantazm (LMS-docs)
Winner: Zantazm
Match Hype: Gnarfflinger and Zantazm match up pretty well, and it will be interesting to see a glimpse of the General Division future when they clash in an LMS match this week. Frying pans are legal, so Gnarff may have the upper hand.
2. Debut Match
Giordano Jazz v. Ermac (Single-docs)
Winner: Ermac
Match Hype: Giordano makes his long-awaited GHW debut when he takes on Ermac in a singles match. Jazz wanted to face the General Champion ForSakeN, but that match will have to wait a bit before happening. Sometimes it's better not biting off more than you can chew. Ermac will definitely give Jazz a challenge that he's looking for.
TAG TEAM
1. Bronze Tag Team Championship (Best of 3 falls)
Rock Skull (c) v. Punk and Hyperion (docs)
First Fall: Punk and Hyperion
Second Fall: Rock Skull
Winners and NEW Bronze Tag Team Champions: Punk and Hyperion
Match Hype: In a rematch from World Warz, Rock Skull will take on Punk and Hyperion in a best of 3 falls stipulation bout. If Rock Skull win the first fall, the Titles are no longer on the line and Punk and Hyperion cannot fight for them until after NeXuS. If Punk and Hyperion win the first fall, then the Bronze titles are on the line in the next 2 falls. Intense Tag action is in store.
