Friday Night Mayhem (1/9/09): What makes a Champion?
HARDCORE
1. Future Talent Match
Level One v. Colt Ford (LMS-docs)
Winner: Level One by default
Notes: In an effort to scope out the future talent of GHW, I have decided to feature two Hardcore Superstars each week on Mayhem to open the show. Tonight, the hard-hitting Level One will take on the tough-skinned Colt Ford. Both of these guys love to lay out the hits in their matches, so a LMS will fit the bill. Who will make an early impression on what is to come for the Lieutenant Division?
LIEUTENANT
1. Martin Prince v. Kahlan (Table-docs)
Cancelled
Notes: Martin Prince has made it clear that he wants RhinoMan back in GHW by signing the Petition. Kahlan, meanwhile, is stuck in an odd situation with her tag team partner and her agent. Can Kahlan take her eyes off her debacle for enough time to slam MP through a table? I sure as hell hope so.
2. Non-Title Grudge Match
Destroyer v. The Ultimate Kid (Destroyer's choice and he gets 2 extra staff-docs)
Winner: The Ultimate Kid
Notes: Destroyer and Ultimate Kid had a brief meeting with me backstage this week and it became clear to me what each Superstar's true intentions are. Destroyer has seen the light and joined my legion, and because of that, he will choose the match type tonight. In addition, he will bring two extra staff to the ring to assist him after UK disrespected me. Maybe after this is all said and done UK will see the light...
3. Lieutenant Championship
The Master v. Trickshot (Single-docs)
Winner and STILL Lieutenant Champion: The Master
Notes: The Master became the new Lieutenant Champion last week when he surprisingly defeated Tito Ortiz. Now, he gets his first Title defense and it comes against his friend and ally, trickshot. I'm not sure what to expect from this one, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Title switched hands.
CAPTAIN
1. Non-Title Match
Tommy Musashi v. The Heartbreak Kid (Ladder-docs)
Winner: Tommy Musashi by default
Notes: Tommy Musashi couldn't thwart Marcus Airbourne last week, but then again, no one in the Captain Division has been able to fend him off easily. Tonight, Tommy gets a chance to redeem himself a bit when he takes on The Heartbreak Kid in a ladder match. Is Tommy's Non-Title performances an omen of things to come in the near future? Maybe Hyper Elf needs to start coaching and watching over him more closely.
2. Escaping the Gauntlet
Tito Ortiz v. ForSakeN (Cage-docs)
Winner: ForSakeN
Notes: The winner of the Gauntlet match on Combat this week will have to get inside of a steel cage with the one and only ForSakeN tonight. This is not an enviable position to be in, but somebody has got to do it.
COLONEL
1. Matthew Oliveira v. War Child (Single-docs)
No Contest
Notes: Matthew Oliveira has remained quiet over the past few months, and as far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing. I don't need him poking around in my business or supporting the anti-X faction as he did in the past. In any event, Matt will take on War Child in singles action tonight, and that's all I gotta say about that.
2. Non-Title Match
Dyna Mike Duncan v. HawkEye (Table-docs)
Winner: Dyna Mike Duncan by default
Notes: Dyna Mike Duncan just recently celebrated his birthday in style, and why not cap off the week with an easy match against HawkEye? Mike will even get the added bonus of destroying some old furniture in the process.
3. Escaping the Gauntlet
Malcriado Beast v. Euroman (Single-docs)
Winner: Euroman
Notes: Malcriado Beast made a splash in his new Colonel Division on Combat when he entered the Gauntlet and shocked many by defeating veteran HawkEye in their first ever GHW match. MB looks to be in top form, and will now have to defeat Euroman in singles action to continue his path to the top.
GENERAL
1. Gnarfflinger v. Slim Shady (Cage-docs)
No Contest
Notes: Gnarff and Slim Shady will be enclosed in a steel cage for the sole purpose of exciting the fans tonight. Slim is probably eager to blow off some steam after an early Tournament exit, but Gnarff is no pushover.
2. Money in the Bank Qualifier
frog man v. Backyard Brawler 2 (Ladder-docs)
Winner: frog man
Notes: frog man and Backyard Brawler were eliminated from the Last Laugh Tournament on Combat this week, but they'll get another opportunity to shine at Winter Fury this month when they fight in a Money in the Bank Qualifying match. One of them will have to set up a ladder and retrieve their ticket to this month's PPV.
3. Non-Title Match
Big Daddy v. CHARISMATIC HARDY (LMS-docs)
Winner: Big Daddy
Notes: Big Daddy will take on CH in a bone-chilling LMS match tonight, but seeing how BD has been fighting lately, one has got to think that he has the advantage. Nevertheless, CH wants to prove that he's in the same league as GHW's best and this is a chance to prove it. Also, CH most likely will get a MITB qualifying opportunity soon, so it'd be nice to have some momentum going into that.
4. Last Laugh Tournament Match
Angelus v. Pennylane (Table-docs)
Winner: Angelus
Notes: Angelus and Falling Angel were the winners of the Fan Interactive Poll to allow them to get a second chance in the second round of the Last Laugh Tournament. Angelus has asked to face Pennylane, and he will get him. Tables will be the theme, and only one will make it to the Semi-Finals.
5. Last Laugh Tournament Match
Falling Angel v. Muhammad Hassan (Single-docs)
Winner: Muhammad Hassan
Notes: Falling Angel got the fans support in the Polls and now she has a second chance at getting the last laugh. She has selected Jake Steele as her opponent, and she will have to defeat him with some good mat skills to advance.
TAG TEAM
1. Non-Title Match
Height of Impact v. Reality Check (docs)
Winner: Reality Check by forfeit
Notes: Height of Impact are the Bronze Tag Team Champs, but they may have some core problems to deal with after Falling Angel made a revelation this week about Kahlan. Whether the rumors are true or not, the duo will need to work as a team if they want to defeat Reality Check in tag action tonight.
2. Non-Title Match
Havoc v. Guerreros de la Calle (docs)
Winner: Havoc
Notes: Havoc are awaiting their opponent at Winter Fury, but they can rest assured that it won't be Guerreros de la Calle. Guererros were eliminated from the mini-Gold Tag Team Tournament last week, but they'll get a chance to show off what they're really made of when they take on the Champs in this classic 2-on-2.
HARDCORE
1. Future Talent Match
